i have 3 hamsters, 1 roborovski and 2 syrian. they are all kept separate. Buttons (robo) is fine and happy, Peanut (syr) hav had her for 2 weeks and she is happy, loves cuddles and is very playful but Homer (other syr) has recently had a new cage. He's been in it 4 2weeks. it has 3 floors, exercise wheel, little tunnel, toiolet roll tube and an igloo. we also get all the hamsters out at 8pm every night for 15 minutes to play together in their exercise wheels. they love to chase each other and play hide and seek! however, when homer goes bak in his cage he just sits there and looks out. he seems very down. i cant help but feel sad and i always end up getting him out and cuddling him. he just looks at me and my bf. is he bored? sum ppl hav suggested he has reached sexual maturity (he is about 7months old) and he likes the female hammies. why is he sad??Any suggestions for my hammie??
he might just be upset that he has to leave the other hammies and go back in his cage. maybe he thinks the other hammies are sharing the other cage and he is jealos of them. my advice try and provide some more toys for him to play with. :)
or he could be worn out after that exercising.
Put it in a liquidizer for 2 minutes.
Then make a jam out of it.
Bury the jam in the garden.
Wait 2 weeks and you will have some lovely flowers.
Tulips from Hamster Jam.Any suggestions for my hammie??
maybe thats its normal facial expression
it's true that when they reach their sexual maturity they can go through a personality change for awhile, however I believe that closer to eight or nine weeks old, not seven months old...in this breeding article they discuss at what age your hamster should have reached maturity:

...perhaps your syrian is bored?
you could give him more time out of the cage
maybe a new toy in the cage?
Remember that the average hamster can run up to 8 miles on it's wheel at night, plus it does laps around the cage looking for things to explore. It's always a good thing to supply a wide variety of chew toys, and alot of people even bury some food or treats in the bedding, the hamster smells them and digs them up to eat which keeps them from getting bored...here's an article on toys for hamsters:

since he has recently had a cage change which can be stressful and since he is showing what you see as sadness or depression, then I urge you to take precautions against wet tail Wet tail can be inside your hamster for several days before you see the classic symptoms of diarrhea; a good way to prevent wet tail is to feed your hamster fresh cabbage daily when ever they go through a stressful time, such as a cage change, and also keep the cage clean. Here's a fact sheet about wet tail:

Perhaps he is tired after all the playing and just wants a quiet moment to himself. Sounds like you have quite a hamster nursery there. They are such lovely little creatures. I've had dozens of them. I dont visit the pet shop for fear of bringing more home! I love em.
