My hampster's urine has recently become very strong, similar to a fishy smell. why would that be?

My female teddy-bear hampster momo is about 8months old now, and we've had her for the whole time, i feed her vegetables and nuts a couple times a week and she seems very happy always running on her wheel and just doing hampster-like things, eating,climbing,sleeping etc. I've noticed though that her urine latetly is so strong almost like a dead animal or rotting fish which permeats whatever room she's in just a day after i clean her cage. i usually soak her cage in 2ounces of water with about 2/3 drops of lavender oil everytime i clean it, and i use kaytee forti-diet for her food. I've had about eleven hampsters in my lifetime and from what i've learned hampster urine is a small amount but a potent one, but none of their urine ever smelled as strong as momo's, i'm wondering if its the food im giving or something in her system is not ok, is it ok that her urine smells so strong? is her food the problem? momo doesn't seem sick but im still worried.

I would take her to the vet. A strong fishy smell to the urine can be a sign of a urinary tract infection.
She might be sick but maybe she as peed in the same places over and over again and maybe it is the lavender you put in this is what i would do



1. change her litter

2. if that does not work take her to the vet

3. maybe you should not worry maybe it was just peeing over and over again in the same places

She's probably not getting enough water. That would contribute to the strong smell, where her body has to pump out more of the wastes into the urine to conserve water.
