My hamster has been very down...?

All my hammie does is sit in a box and sleep, she used to be active and playful and happy but now she dosent touch her wheel exept to pee on alot, as soon as it got dark she used to come on out and hop on her wheel and be happy but now its midnight and nothing. Shes a 1-2 year old russian dwarf campbell hamster, I constintally give her new things to cew on and play with and I take her out everyday but nothing changes. Is she sick? Lonley? please help...





P.S. I want to get her another hammie friend but the pet store says she will attack anyone new and that 2 diffrent hamsters don't get along...true? And my parents said no pets for a year...|||She is probably just old, but if you are worried about her not getting enough exersize you might want to take her out of her cage sometimes and play with her.





It's not a good idea to try to introduce a new hamster to her, they will most likely just fight, and it will stress out your hamster. Since she grew up without any other hamsters she is probably not lonely but the best thing to do is to just keep playing with her and make her happy.





Also your hamster may not be as active but she still may be active, unless you have stayed up with her all night, you don't really know if she is getting up or not.|||it's just old age|||it could be old age but i dont know...take it to the vet...or a therapist maybe he is depressed or something...|||well i would not really say its cause she is lonely unless she had a friend in there b4 that may have passed away. i would guess that she may be ill or i dont like to say it but she may be on her way out as the things u have discribed i had wiv my chinese dwalf hamster b4 he died i think he lasted a couple of weeks from the start of the change. if i was u i would take her to the vets to get checked over xxx and i hope she is ok xxx|||She is getting a little old. Since she's been alone all her life, they may fight. What you need to do is introduce them in an area outside of the cage where you can separate them if they fight. If they don't, put them in a same cage, if they do make sure you have an extra cage to put the other one in and introduce them the same way every day until they're good together and then they can share a cage.|||She is too old. Don't get her another hamster friend. They only live to 2 2-1/2 years anyway. that is 2 yrs or 2-1/2 yrs. Maybe she is just old.|||She starting to get old. My hamster does the same thing. She used to be real active. She was always running on her wheel or climbing around on her cage but now she just sits around in her cage. This is my fourth hamster and they all have acted the same way after 1 1/2 to 2 years.
