Happy hamster?

before 2 days ago my hamster represented the word happy. it was always eating and climbing onto me. (well its still eating but not so cute) it would love to rest in my hand but now evr since when it broke its tooth about two days ago its seemed sad and angry . it still hasnt bitten me but it always acts so scared and all he does is bite the metal bars and go on the excersise wheel. it stoped playing with its toiilet paper roll too, wich used to be his favourite hobby. ive heard that sad hamsters live shorter lives|||ok, well, yes it is probably true to start with, that hamsters live for less time if they have unhappy lives - I mean, it's basic common sense that if an animal is happy it will be less stressed and less suseptible to disease or illness. Also, no animal is emotionless, and it's pretty safe to say that your hamster wont feel exactly the same amount of pleasure/discomfort when it is ill compared to when it is healthy - again, it makes no sense to say that. I can totally agree that hamsters aren't the most intellegant animals on the plannet but they are a bit more than what some people seem to be giving them credit for. Hamsters are real living things, not just robots for kids to play with.

Anyway, your hamster may be in a bit of pain or discomfort from breaking his tooth and therefore this may make him unhappy. You should check by using websites what to do in the case where he breaks his tooth. Maybe you can do something to help him or maybe he needs to go see the vet (I doubt it, but just saying). Also, it could be merely that your hamster wants to file down a jagered edge or straighten his tooth, and this could be why he is biting the bars. He may not be playing with his tube like he usually does because he feels he needs to sort out his tooth and therefore that is what he is concentrating on. I wouldn't worry that hamsters will live less time if they are unhappy - firstly, you're not sure he is actually unhappy anyway, and even if he is, this is probably going to be a very short term thing while he fixes his problem. At least you can see a reason for his change in behaviour, and it's pretty likely it is his tooth, so this should put your mind at rest that you know what the problem is and can try to help him from there instead of being clueless. Also, you know it isn't a more severe problem, like a disease or something.

It'll be ok!|||so wats your question.

no he's not happy

that happened to my hamster too well his tooth didnt come off

just cheer him up!|||no they dont|||Nope hamsters can't be sad or happy there emotionless but they chew on the bars to wear there teeth down because they constantly grow everyday.

The tooth will grow back~

Don't worry about it|||how much toys do you have in there with him....maybe some chew toys to see if his teeth are feeling better

treats

toys

hold him a lot

that's what i would do, just to ensure total happiness|||it might be slightly uncomfortable a it has un-even teeth, the reason it's biting on the abrs will probably be to wear them down or maybe take away a jagged edge? Do you have a stick in there for it to chew on? - if you don't make sure it's not poisonous to it.

it may be slightly more intimidated as teeth are the only method hamsters have of defending themselves so it's a bit more nervous than usual because it's lost it's only "weapon".

I'm sure it's absolutly fine and just recovering from the shock but if you do get more concerned just take it to your local vets.
