We will be taking a 10+/- day long road trip and I was wondering if any one had any suggestions on how to keep my 2 year old son distracted and happy. So far, we have coloring books, DVDs, and he loves hot wheels cars.... I know it will be tough, but any suggestions would be helpful|||we used to go on alot of road trip when we were younger, we always had a bucket full of activities, like colouring books, hand-help games, blank paper and crayons, get him involved in the process of picking the items that go into the bucket.
You should also pack a cooler with some of his favourite snacks, keep it either in the backseat of in the front with you, depending on your car.|||Man - that's a tough one and not something I would recommend doing at that age if you don't absolutely have to. Plan on making LOTS of stops during the day and let him run off energy as often as possible. Do most of your heavy-duty traveling at night while he's asleep. Movies, games %26amp; books only distract for so long - he WILL get sick of being restrained sitting in the car seat and nothing you do is going to distract him from that once he's had it. Renting or borrowing an RV would be a good idea - at least he could run around in that for short periods of time and lay down on a bed to nap.|||I know this is going to sound awful but my husband's family is from Michigan and to get to his moms is a 9 hour trip....we got my 3 y/o a personal DVD player to watch. I take his favorite movies and he doesn't make a sound until he is ready to watch another one.|||Glad it is you and not me. If it was my 3 yr old, it would be a long 10 days.
DVD is the best thing and plenty of snacks.
We got a toy steering wheel that sucks onto his window so he gets to pretend to drive.
I also get in the back of the car with him occasionally so he doesn't feel lonely.
Plenty of park times and breaks although this takes time off your trip.|||I will PRAY for you!!!!!!!!!!!!
I assume you HAVE to do this? I wouldn't.|||Have a variety of activities that you cycle round. Sing and or have some children's cds playing, have interactional toys with buttons and sound effects, colouring in, bubbles, a favourite teddy or dolly, a mini chalk board, jigsaws and musical instruments. All the best for the trip.|||-Magna Doodle-travel sized
-Clip board for those coloring books|||fly|||If your child is in the verbal stage try playing games with him like looking for a tree or a certain color. Or looking for cars with dogs. Once a child starts something like that they are dedicated to it.|||don't forget the snacks. Play games in the car like "I spy" or count things. You said coloring books but maybe also some regular books.
