So i want to get 2 pet mice but i have some questions?

which is better, getting 2 male mice or getting 2 females? i've heard the males fight and have a stronger smell. do the females mark too? i'm looking to get albinos (just think their cuter) i've heard a 10 gallon tank is good for 2 mice? and what all do they need? i have a little hide house, some chew sticks, a food bowl, and an exercise wheel already, and the 10 gallon tank my snake is growing out of. i know they need toys and treats and such but what do they enjoy most? and the petco here seems to only have Male white mice.. should i just get females or would they be happy with a cage divider?|||Two or three females are best, as they tend to get along better. It is nice to have a third, because when one passes away, you still have two buddies. They are very social and love mouse company. Males smell much more, and they do mark their territory everywhere. Albinos are cute, but I have found over the last 15 years that solid colors are more people friendly. Browns have always been sweethearts at my house, and love to be pet. The ultimate mouse we ever had, Spot, was all black with a white spot on her tail. I am not saying albinos or half-n-half colored mice are not people friendly; they are. They just never seem to be AS people friendly as the solid colored mice. Your assortment of supplies sounds great. Empty paper towel/toilet paper rolls are fun for the mice. They love to both run through and chew on them. Get one wheel apiece for the mice. The tank is a good size. Mice love those igloos to sleep in, too. Mine alternate between the igloo and the wooden home. It gives variety, and if they want to get away from each other, they have somewhere to go. Some favorite treats with my five girls are Cheerios, Rice Krispies, colored wooden pretzel twists/sticks and apple flavored logs. I do not think the divider would work out too well, so stick with getting females so you will not need it.

I am glad you are getting albinos. I did not mean to make it sound like you should not. Albinos are typically considered feeder mice, but you probably know that since you have a snake. I am hoping you feed your snake other food? All the best with the pet mice.|||I would say 2 female mice are a safer bet. Male mice are very territorial and will fight to the death if not separated in time. Be aware that female mice can get pregnant at 4 to 6 weeks of age, so they may be pregnant when you get them! Females do not mark their territory. They should live together peaceably. The lifespan of mice is relatively short, about 18 months to 2 years so think of that impact on yourself.

If your mice are pregnant, gestation is generally 21 days. The babies can be removed from the mother at age 21 days as well. At this time they should be separated by sex so no unwanted pregnancies can occur. To sex the mice you must look at the genital area. Pick them up by the tail and look. The males have a greater distance from the penis to the rectum than the females have from the vulva to the rectum.

Good luck. :)|||two or three females are best!!! or just one male. Males are territorial and often mark they're territory.

A ten gallon tank should be fine. They will love the wheel and the hide away house. Maybe throw a few toys that you pick out special at the store. Don't forget the water bottle thing that you put on the side. I would say ask for females or get one male! or get a rat they are really smart and bond more to humans then mice do. Check them out. Oh and when you pick your rodent ask to be able to hold the ones you pick. It will give you that additional connection|||you should get a rat they want to be touched and love to have people hold them also they are much cleaner but if you do get a rat get a male because just like human females the have the special time of month and they get really mean so i hope i helped|||2 females would be alot better - yes males fight and they smell an awful lot more :)

jyts get females - food bowl, water bottle, mouse/rat/gerbil/hamster food mix will do for them. wheels, tubes(toilet and kitchen roll ones are the best), sawdust, bedding anything extra

hope this helps :)
