Happy Monday R&P, Why not see it my way? (#17)?

Hi Everybody.

Well, we're inside the top 20 on my Top 101 Mix Tape Rules countdown. "Mix tape rules" simply means that I limited myself to one song per band/artist.

Here are the recent selections:

28. Sammy - Encyclopedi-ite

27. the Velvet Underground - Who Loves the Sun

26. Apollo Sunshine - Ghost

25. the Smiths - Handsome Devil

24. John Lennon - Watching The Wheels

23. A.C. Newman - On The Table

22. The Roots - The Seed V. 2.0

21. Wilco - Theologians

20. Grandaddy - Chartsengrafs

19. the Folk Implosion - Natural One

18. the Decemberists - the Tain

For number 17 I went with a cover surprisingly enough. I just think that this is a text book example of a successful cover. You take a great song and put your stamp on it to create another, distinct great song. Stevie Wonder took this Beatles tune and made it a great song of his own. This is easily my favorite cover. It just makes me so happy. I know he has stuff of his own that would be definitely deserving of being on this list (You Met Your Match, Livin For the City and Black Man come to mind), but what can I say. This is my favorite.

man, 3 weeks left, what are you going to do with yourself when you get to #1?|||awesome song! ive been really into him lately, as well as Marvin Gaye and Ray Charles. Innervisions is on the top of my list of albums to get. My fave song by him is Living for the City|||Hi Prof,

Cool cover. I prefer the Beatles original version but I liked that too.

My favourite cover would possibly be Dinosaur Jr's cover of The Cure's Just Like Heaven.

I never really listened to much Stevie Wonder so my favourite song will be one of his most well known songs, Superstition.|||Ah, Stevie Wonder has been a favorite of mine since I was in high school and got turned onto Talking Book when it was brand new... Even got to see him live. He was the warm-up band for the Stones. May, 1972. What a stellar talent.

He did do a great job of making that song 'his own'. I'd say my favorite cover is "Crossroads" by Cream (orig. by Robert Johnson).

Fave SW song... Love's in Need of Love Today. Starts out the "Songs in the Key of Life" albums, and it's just so perfect. Love hearing that song.

The Saints won, wahoo! Too bad I'm suffering at work today, need sleep bad.

I haven't heard that cover in so long that I forgot it even existed!

My favorite Stevie song is "Superstition".

My favorite cover is by The Fab Faux and it's The Beatles "I Am the Walrus" which is one of their hardest songs to cover but they do it incredibly well.

The Fab Faux are IMO the best The Beatles tribute band!|||Excellent selection we must say

and say we must because it is...

as far as beatles cover songs go.. its right up there with Wilson Picket's barn burning version of Hey Jude..

Stevie performs my favorite christmas song, That's What Christmas Means To Me

and a few of my other faves include "Heaven is Ten Zillion Light Years Away" and "As"|||Great song and he did do a smash up job on that one.

With A Little Help From My Friends Joe Cocker and I believe he even did a better job than the Beatles did themselves.

My favorite by him is AS

take care

dave|||Excellent !!

I think he can take any song and make it his own, to be honest!

A true genius :)

What's your favorite cover? The English Beat's cover of Townshend's "Sooner or Later" is impressive.

What's your favorite Stevie Wonder tune? - wow !! to be honest, I love his complex arrangements on "Innervisions" and "Fulfillingness" --

- but the simplicity and beauty of "My Cherie Amore" is probably my all-time fave :)|||Hey Prof.

Great Beatles cover by Stevie Wonder. I really liked his version.

I admit, I don't know that much about him, but I'm looking to change that. I'm afraid a favorite song would be one of the many hits he has.

My favorite cover is Ryan Adams' cover of "Wonderwall", by Oasis. He made it his own.
